Here Are The Most Unreal Requests Made By Actors While Working On A Film

While movie and television viewers love to see their favorite actors grace the screen, the producers behind those projects know that hiring a big name comes with as many risks as it does rewards. Some well-known actors are down-to-earth, but others... not so much. These actors' and actresses' huge demands certainly put a lot of stress on everyone involved. Sometimes, formidable talent comes with an equally large ego...

Johnny Depp's hidden earpiece

On the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Depp reportedly had a sound engineer feed him his lines through a hidden earpiece during each take so he wouldn't have to memorize them. It's not a stretch to say this may have irked some of his colleagues. It's possible that this "technique" actually helped bring Jack Sparrow's unpredictable nature to life!

Gary Busey's version of the afterlife

Busey is known for his quirky ways, but nothing comes close to when he was on the set of the film Quigley. During a scene that took place in heaven, Busey, claiming to have had a near-death experience himself, allegedly made the entire crew redesign the set to look more like the afterlife he personally experienced.

Sharon Stone is a little too fearless

Sharon Stone is rumored to be difficult to work with, but it just may be her fearless personality that makes her one of Hollywood's most memorable femme fatales. Still, it's said that Stone required a private limousine and a producer credit while filming the Italian comedy A Golden Boy so she could charge all of her character's clothing to the film studio. A little too fearless, maybe?

Wesley Snipes communicated via Post-It notes

Snipes has a reputation for being antisocial on set. Reportedly, during the filming of the Blade trilogy, the actor would only appear for close-up shots, spending the remainder of his time in his trailer while communicating with the director via Post-It notes only. If this is true, then we can't help but admire his dedication to being antisocial.

Arnold Schwarzenegger's 33-page contract

On the set of Terminator 3, the action star had a 33-page contract outlining several demands, including a trailer stocked with gym equipment, a team of bodyguards, and a three-bedroom deluxe suite wherever he was filming. He also selected the director, co-stars, and crew, as well as drivers, hair and makeup artists, and chefs. Hey, if we were the Arnold Schwarzenegger, we'd be confident, too!

Robert Downey Jr. refused to wear his costume

Even though Downey looked terrific in his intricate Iron Man suit, he stopped wearing the suit when he filmed. Lugging around the heavy outfit was too cumbersome, so he opted to have the special effects team digitally add it on him so he could be more comfortable while on set. We honestly can't blame him for this one!

Daniel Day-Lewis took "method acting" to the next level

Method actors can really push the boundaries on set, especially when they're getting into the mindset of a difficult role. The film My Left Foot stars Academy Award-winner Daniel Day-Lewis as a man suffering from severe cerebral palsy. The able-bodied actor would remain in a wheelchair all day, and the crew had to feed him and wheel him around everywhere. Sounds like he was a little too in character...

Teri Hatcher was "the meanest"

This actress reportedly didn't get along with some of her Desperate Housewives costars. Apparently, her co-star Nicollette Sheridan called Hatcher "the meanest woman in the world." Despite rumors that Hatcher wanted to be waited on hand and foot on set, Hatcher later claimed, "That crew knows I'd have jumped in front of a bus for them at any moment... so it doesn't matter what anybody writes."

Mike Myers had a $5 million request

This Hollywood funnyman had a pretty outlandish demand after he finished recording his voice for the first Shrek movie: he wanted to re-record everything because he didn't like the accent he originally used. It ended up costing the studio an extra $5 million! Obviously, the change ended up being worth it. We can't imagine Shrek without his thick Scottish accent!

Lena Headey and Jerome Flynn's rocky breakup

Fans of the epic television show Game of Thrones know the characters of Cersei (left) and Bronn, but most of them don't know that it may have been in both of their contracts to never be in the same scene together. After a rocky breakup years before, they reportedly refused to be on set at the same time. Flynn later denied this, however, and told fans, "I wouldn't believe everything you read."

Jack Nicholson hated the Boston Celtics

When legendary director Martin Scorsese first offered the Academy Award-winning actor with a lead role, Nicholson wasn't interested. In order to get the actor on board, Scorsese allowed Nicholson to make some interesting demands on set, such as banning all Boston Celtics basketball memorabilia because he was a fan of their rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers. If this is true, it's a bit unrealistic for a film that takes place in Boston!

Samuel L. Jackson required a particular lightsaber

Jackson got his way onscreen, too. When he played Jedi Master Mace Windu in the second Star Wars prequel, he convinced director George Lucas to give him a purple lightsaber so he could stand out among the other characters. This may sound like a strange request, but it worked in his favor: his purple lightsaber is unmissable.

Harrison Ford's morbid request

For whatever reason, Ford reportedly tried several times to convince George Lucas to kill off his character, Han Solo. It's been rumored that in order to get Ford on board with the new Star Wars sequels, executives promised to kill him off in the first of the three films—as well as make a new Indiana Jones movie.

Jennifer Lawrence spent hours in hair and makeup

Playing the character of Mystique in the X-Men movies was incredibly taxing on Lawrence; she would have to sit in the makeup chair for up to eight hours a day! In the sequels to the first film, she requested a bodysuit as opposed to having her entire body actually painted blue to save time and frustration. We can totally understand why she'd make this request!

Bill Murray's secret passion project

Convincing this comedy legend to sign on to the film Ghostbusters wasn't easy. In fact, Murray only agreed to act in it if the studio paid to make his passion project, The Razor's Edge. Some would call this move egotistical, but others would call it a smart business decision! It worked out for the Ghostbusters crew, as the film ended up being much more successful than The Razor's Edge.

Will Smith's two-story trailer

While filming in New York, Smith had his own two-story trailer as well as a second trailer complete with his own gym. He also kept an expensive New York City apartment nearby. How much privacy does one guy need?! Well, when you're Will Smith, privacy is probably hard to come by.

Eddie Murphy doesn't use items twice

As wasteful as it seems, the comedic actor reportedly refuses to use anything twice while he's filming a movie. He uses items once before throwing them into the garbage, including socks, underwear, and toothpaste. Talk about wasteful! We hope this was actually just an elaborate form of method acting from the comedian.

Steve McQueen demanded more lines

McQueen was excited to star alongside fellow actor Paul Newman in The Towering Inferno. However, that didn't stop him from demanding an additional 12 lines of dialogue so it would be exactly the same amount as his costar. Clearly, McQueen wasn't one for second billing!

Ariana Grande gets carried around

This pop diva has a pretty outrageous request that she makes of anyone whom she deems fit enough to actually carry it out. Believe it or not, she prefers to be carried around from place to place! Well, maybe not all of the time. Apparently, the pop star's towering heels are the reason she occasionally asks to be carried around set.

Kanye West the diva

This rapper has made a career out of having an ego so big that it's amazing he can actually get his head through doors. He makes a lot of outrageous demands, but one in particular takes the cake. When Kanye is performing, he demands that the carpet in his dressing room be ironed. Can you imagine being such a diva that you'd even think to make this request?

Lady Gaga needs a warm bed

While Lady Gaga might seem like an interesting character, she can allegedly have a few unusual requests. If you ever work for the pop star, expect to find yourself warming her bed every night with a hot water bottle! We can actually see the appeal of this request. Who doesn't want to slip into a warm bed after a long day of being Lady Gaga?

Mary J. Blige asks for new toilet seats

There's no denying that she's the queen of hip-hop soul, but she doesn't seem to realize that she's not actually royalty. Mary is known for asking to have brand-new toilet seats in all her dressing rooms! Hey, if we had millions of dollars, we'd ask for this, too. It sounds excessive, but also very hygienic.

Katy Perry doesn't want to be spoken to

Katy might seem like a lot of fun, and that could be true... unless you happen to be the person hired to drive this singer's limos! In order to get the job, you've got to sign a 45-page contract. Katy's clearly had some unfortunate run-ins with her limo drivers in the past. How else can you explain a contract that insists the driver not speak to her?

Never look Jennifer Lopez in the eyes

She may be Jenny From the Block, but that doesn't mean she'll tolerate anything other than the royal treatment. Apparently, all of her employees are instructed not to make eye contact with the star. If this is true, we can't help but wonder what would happen if someone accidentally made eye contact with her. Would they turn to stone?

Jay-Z's private jet is always busy

Don't expect this hip-hop mogul to fly coach in order to get to basketball games! In fact, Jay-Z is such a huge sports nut that he will only fly private jets that have Direct TV so he never risks missing a game. We shudder to think of the environmental impact of all those private jet excursions!

Mariah Carey is the ultimate diva

This singer puts all the other demanding divas out there to shame. For instance, Mariah has been known to insist that her staff members walk backwards in her presence, just to make sure they don't show their backs to her—something she considers to be deeply disrespectful. This sounds like something from out of a movie, not real life!

Nicki Minaj has some royally weird excuses

One of the best rappers in the game, Nicki Minaj is no stranger to making over-the-top requests or unbelievable excuses. Allegedly, Nicki was once late to a concert because she claimed that the grass was cut too unevenly to walk on. M'kay, girl, whatever you say. They don't call her the "Queen of Rap" for nothing!

Jessica Simpson's beauty budget was excessive

According to the team at The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jessica refused to make an appearance unless NBC agreed to pay $18,000 for her hair and makeup. They passed and invited Sarah Palin instead. We honestly can't really blame Simpson for her excessive request — it's expensive to look like her every day!

Rihanna

Celebrities have been known to make crazy requests when it comes to outfitting their dressing rooms, and Rihanna is no exception. If there isn't "icy blue chiffon" draped over every surface, don't expect her to perform! If this is true, we can almost understand it. Icy blue chiffon is the height of luxury. It's what Queen Rihanna deserves!

Paul McCartney is a passionate vegetarian

If you want to work with Beatles legend Paul McCartney, you can leave any leather products at the door. And don't even think about approaching him with a ham sandwich! The rock star has been a passionate vegetarian since 1975, so he clearly isn't playing around when it comes to animal rights. Allegedly, Sir Paul also won't enter a dressing room unless it contains freesias.

Jennifer Aniston may not be very friendly

Although she became famous while starring on Friends, Jennifer may not always be too friendly, according to some sources. Some say that she refuses to eat on set with other actors, preferring instead to stay in her trailer, which is sometimes kept miles away from set. Maybe she just likes her privacy!

Will Ferrell's hilariously weird requests

It probably won't surprise you to learn that funnyman Will Ferrell is known for his outrageous and LOL-worthy requests. Demands he's made include an electric scooter, a painted rainbow on wheels, and a 15-foot-tall fake tree. He really took "unusual demands" to another level! Let's hope he's just kidding...

Kim Kardashian requests fresh fruit and vegetables

We knew the Kardashians were over-the-top, but this is getting a little out of hand! Yes, Kim apparently refuses to eat fruits and vegetables that haven't been purchased fresh that day. Honestly, this sounds like a great idea to us. It may be a lot of work for her assistants, but nothing tastes quite as delicious as a fresh apple.

Queen Latifah refuses to die

Queen Latifah has officially been killed off a few too many times, ending with her intense death in 1996’s Set it Off. From then, and onward, the star included in all her contracts that her characters can’t die!

Barbra Streisand needs a particular kind of TP

Barbra Streisand is known to be a fiery diva on the set of her countless award-winning theater and film roles. For Barbra, “making it” means getting to demand peach-colored toilet paper, along with rose petals on the toilet!

Robin Williams's philanthropic flex

Now for a philanthropic flex. This one came out after the late Robin Williams passed away. Apparently, the actor was known for demanding that homeless people were hired to work on the sets of the movies he was in. Finally, an actor request that has nothing to do with the actor himself!

Marlon Brando asked for a mini-me

No demand is too large when you’re a Hollywood legend, right? While filming The Island of Doctor Moreau in 1996, Marlon Brando inexplicably demanded that a mini-me character be added and appear in his scenes! We're still scratching our heads at this bizarre request.

Jamie Foxx asked for more money

This one’s juicy, and honestly, a little catty. When Jamie Foxx was cast opposite Colin Farrell in the 2006 adaptation of Miami Vice, the Ray star allegedly demanded that he be paid more than Colin! Apparently, his request stemmed from his recent Oscar win, which he thought should lead to him getting a bigger paycheck.

John Mayer asks for children's cereal

Powering those funky guitar licks? Sugary cereals. Count Chocula is John's ideal, but any kids' favorite will do. To combat the cavities, he needs 4 soft head toothbrushes, Listerine, 2 tubes of mint toothpaste, and 2 tins of Altoids.

Alicia Keys requires lots of liquids

She requires a lot of liquids to keep up her pipes in perfect pitch. Specifically? She asks for quarts of vanilla soy milk and chocolate almond milk, cranberry and apple juices, Vitamin Water, and a box of Throat Coat tea.
